Habitat for Humanity brings low-income families together in partnership with communities, volunteers, and resources to build simple, decent, affordable housing. The selected family provides several hundred hours of “sweat equity,” along with community volunteers. Over 150,000 homes in 89 countries have been built worldwide since 1976; 50,000 of those are in the US. Mercer has built 5 “all-Mercer” houses in the past few years, with the University matching 3 to 1 the funds raised by students (students must raise $11,000 for each Mercer Habitat house).
